Closing Remarks by Prof. Victor B. Lawrence

[LMGlobal.Org] This has been a wonderful webinar. Truly a wonderful webinar.

The topic we are discussing – artificial intelligence – is extremely important. It affects us in every way: how we live, how we work, and how we do almost everything. You have chosen the right topic.
As with all major inventions and powerful technologies, there are good aspects and harmful aspects. That is why you focused this panel on AI policy. We need policy and a guiding light to help all of us navigate this.

You have heard a lot today from many experts. From what I have heard, it also seems clear that the Europeans are a bit ahead of us in this area. They are working toward an overall AI policy for the entire European Union, which has about 28 countries.

We, in the United States, have 50 states. The big question now is:
Can we have a coherent, unified U.S. AI policy, instead of 50 different approaches?

You have heard many dimensions of that question addressed in today’s webinar.

As we leave, I believe our work is not finished. This is just the beginning.

I hope that we can help the United States – through Congress, through the Senate, and through all 50 states – move toward one unified AI policy.

That is the main point on which I want to close. Rather than going through each talk one by one, I think you have all heard them clearly and presented them very well.

So, thank you to Bircan for organizing this.
