BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

[LMGlobal.Org – September 3, 2025] The Compulsory Peace & ICT Education Campaign is a multi-year initiative by The Light Millennium Global, a UN-associated NGO, launched in support of the UNGA79 Summit of the Future. The campaign’s vision is to be brought to the UN General Assembly for the next phase of the UN Millennium Declaration from 2030 to 2045, to be materialized by 2045 at the UN’s 100th Anniversary. The vision fundamentally proposes a foundational curriculum that teaches peace and digital literacy from kindergarten to K-12 and beyond. The campaign was inaugurated in a four-part interview series on the web with Large Language Model Gemini (July-August 2025), which established the groundwork for this vital initiative.
The upcoming session on SEPTEMBER 13, 2025, marks the SIXTH event in this series, building on previous successes. The campaign’s previous sessions have explored the topic from various angles, from international legal perspectives with Bruce Fein, Esq., to an inaugural session with 18 international coalition members, and an in-person event in Istanbul. This session is particularly relevant as it ties into the global mission of the International Day of Democracy, highlighting how education is the most powerful tool for fostering peace and navigating the complexities of our digital world.
This initiative is a proactive, long-term commitment and goal through the support of the UN Member States to empower future generations with the skills needed to build a more just, secure, and democratic society.

To forge a world of peace, security, equality, and sustainability, we must implement a compulsory Peace and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) education curriculum from kindergarten to K-12 and beyond. The Light Millennium Global believes that this foundational approach is essential for bridging the profound inequalities we see today—from gender and economic disparities to unequal access to quality education and digital resources.

Our vision is directly aligned with the core principles of democracy: fostering empathy, respect for human rights, and the dignity of every individual. By introducing children to diverse cultures and creeds starting on and onward at a young age, we can foster a society that values understanding over division.

This year’s International Day of Democracy (September 15) theme—” Ensuring effective governance of AI at all levels“—underscores the urgency of our mission. ICT, including AI, is a game-changer, but its power must be harnessed for good. A compulsory, universal education system that integrates peace studies with digital literacy will be the only way to equip future generations with the skills to navigate the digital world safely and ethically.

Investing in this educational model is a powerful act of proactive governance. It can serve as the backbone of a new global strategy, creating a generation of global citizens empowered to combat hatred, misinformation, and online abuses like human trafficking. This approach represents a long-term investment in humanity, providing a pathway to true freedom, equality, and democracy.

We envision this campaign as a crucial component of the next phase of the UN’s Millennium Declaration, with the ultimate aim of being brought to the UN General Assembly for universal adoption. By securing this global commitment, we can secure a more democratic, free, and just world for all by 2045, the UN’s 100th anniversary.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The session is designed to generate concrete outcomes that contribute to the campaign’s long-term vision. Through a collaborative discussion, we aim to achieve the following:

• Champion Democratic Rights: To build a global consensus that education is a fundamental tool for empowering citizens to exercise their democratic rights, foster accountability, and build strong, just institutions.

• Advance Digital and Social Equity: To bridge the profound gap in digital literacy, ensuring that access to technology is coupled with the skills to navigate the digital world responsibly and ethically, thereby closing the equality gap.

• Cultivate a Culture of Peace: To promote peace and conflict resolution as essential skills, encouraging a global culture that values dialogue, respect for human rights, and the dignity of every individual.

• Catalyze Global Action: To mobilize a global community of stakeholders, including Member States, civil society, and the private sector, to champion a comprehensive and compulsory curriculum on peace and ICT education.

• Empower Future Generations: To empower youth with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling them to become proactive global citizens who use technology as a tool for positive social change and sustainable development.

• Amplify Our Message: To post and make the session’s presentations and speeches publicly available, and to produce and schedule the video recording for dissemination on local cable channels and online.
