In support of ICTs For Girls

Toward a global standard of Compulsory Peace & ICTs Education. This campaign serves as a bridge between the mathematical precision of the past and the ethical, peaceful technological landscape of the future.

In the spirit of the UN Pact for the Future, via campaign #8, The Light Millennium Global aims to bridging the gap between historical legacy and future innovation. We are moving from basic access—we are advocating for Compulsory Peace & ICTs Education from Kindergarten to K-12, and Beyond.

The Mission: Campaign #8 represents a strategic evolution in our advocacy. By integrating the legacy of Gladys West—the American mathematician whose satellite geodesy models made the Global Positioning System (GPS) possible—we are highlighting the indispensable role of women in the foundational technologies of our modern world.

THE VISION: To celebrate International Girls in ICT Day and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we invite young female leaders to take center stage. Just as Gladys West used mathematics and satellite geodesy to change how we see our world, we want to hear how you will use technology to protect it. 

WE SEEK YOUR PARTICIPATION: We are looking for High School, College, and Junior High students (with a primary focus on girls and young women) to participate in our April 25, 2026, session.

Areas of Focus:

ICTs & AI for Peace from K-12 and onward: How can algorithms promote global harmony?

Space Technology: The role of satellites in environmental and human security.

The Digital Bridge: Closing the gender gap in STEM/STEAM from an early age.

The 2045 Vision: A world where “Peace ICTs” are a fundamental right for every student.

How to Participate: We are looking for active participants to be profiled in our next session and featured as youth speakers.

WHO IS GLADYS WEST? (1930–2026)

The Mathematician Who Reshaped the World

Born in 1930 in rural Virginia, Gladys West grew up on her family’s farm, but she knew at a young age that education was her path to a different future. After graduating as valedictorian and earning a full scholarship to Virginia State College, she became a mathematician at the Naval Proving Ground in 1956—one of the few African-American women in her field.

During her 42-year career, Gladys West used complex algorithms to process satellite data, creating an increasingly accurate mathematical model of the Earth’s shape, known as a geoid. This precise modeling became the foundational “brain” of the Global Positioning System (GPS). Though she worked in quiet anonymity for decades, her brilliance now guides billions of people every day. Dr. West’s legacy proves that with perseverance and a “quiet revolution” of hard work, you can map the future of the entire world.
