A Message from the Founder-and-Mother: From Water to the Linguistic Matrix
Dear Colleagues, Educators, and Future Youth Producers of Knowledge,

[LMGlobal.Org, February 20, 2026] As we move forward from the successful conclusion of our 2025 J.U.C. Awards—which saw incredible “Water Action” submissions from across the globe—my heart and mind have turned toward our next horizon.
For 2027, the J.U.C. Awards return to a theme that is deeply personal to me and was central to the life of my son, J.U.C. (John Unver Culkin): Bilingualism.
There is a profound Turkish proverb that guides our vision this year: “One language, one person; two languages, two people.” (Bir lisan bir insan, iki lisan iki insan”. We often view language simply as a tool for communication, but for the bilingual youth, it is a transformation of the self. It is a “Linguistic Matrix”—a strategic way of thinking that allows one to navigate the world as “two people,” doubling their capacity for empathy, logic, and innovation. My son grew up in this matrix, always curious about the power of intelligence and the bridges built between cultures.
To our collaborating partners in education: We invite you to walk this bridge with us. We are seeking committed schools and NGOs who recognize that a ‘Youth Producer of Knowledge’ is not made overnight. Please confirm your participation and designate your student liaison by May 22, 2026, so we can support your students throughout the summer and into the Fall.”
Today, in support of International Mother Language Day #IMLD2026, we have launched the 2027 Call for Participation. We are not just asking for essays; we are inviting you to become Producers of Knowledge. We want to see your “Human Intelligence” shine through in a series of poems, a deep research paper, or a visual narrative that reflects your unique “Two-Person” perspective.
As a mother, I have transformed my deepest sorrow into this constructive path via this project. I believe that while one hope may fade, thousands of hopes are reborn through the voices of our youth.
I invite you to read these guidelines carefully. Take your time to build your bridge since you will have several months for the submission deadline (October 16, 2026). We are waiting to see and understand the world through your eyes—your visions––your expectations..

SECTION I: INTRODUCTION, VISION & DECLARATION
In honor of International Mother Language Day, along with in support of the UN SDG-4 Equal and Quality Education For ALL, the 2027 J.U.C. Awards turns its focus to the “Linguistic Matrix” of our daily lives. As J.U.C. (2018) questioned: Is living between two languages an Asset or a Liability?
Our Vision: We seek to empower students to move beyond being passive consumers of information and instead become Producers of Knowledge. This project documents the Intellectual and Intercultural Confidence that arises when a student navigates life through dual linguistic lenses. Whether using a second language as a “strategic tool” for emotional balance or a mother tongue as a “database” for ecological wisdom, we celebrate the bilingual student as a “Living Bridge”—a strategic mediator in science, arts, culture, and global peace.
The “Youth Producer of Knowledge” Declaration: A participant in the J.U.C. Awards is defined as a “Producer” rather than a “Consumer” because they:
• Synthesize Original Insights: They do not merely “search” for answers; they analyze their lived bilingual experience to create new understanding.
• Document the Human Archive: They contribute to a global conscience by showing how their unique linguistic background serves as a foundation for human advancement.
• Exercise Self-Determination: They choose to express their intellectual identity through a structured project that exists outside of standard school curricula.

SECTION II: BACKGROUND & THE JOURNEY SO FAR
The very first J.U.C. Awards were introduced in New York City on January 29, 2020, and delivered on June 4, 2021, despite the global pandemic’s negative impacts.
• The First Round (2021): Focused on a set of suggested themes, receiving submissions from 3 countries, with a ceremony on June 4, 2021.
• The Second Round (2023): Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, along with several suggested theme to be selected in support of UN SDGs (such as SDG4, SDG5, AI, STEM, Cell Therapy, and Cosmos related). Submissions came from 7 countries, with a ceremony on June 17, 2023.
• The Third Round (2025): Dedicated to the Water Action Decade (2018-2028) inspired by the UN 2023 Water Conference. Submissions from 5 countries were celebrated on World Water Day, March 22, 2025. The 2027 Awards will mark the 4th cycle. It is dedicated to “Bilingualism,” a concept John Unver Culkin lived within, growing up in a bilingual environment.

SECTION III: INTELLECTUAL PRODUCTIVITY – THE SIX PILLARS
These pillars define the “Environments” where students are expected to produce knowledge:
• Psychology of the “Switch”: Utilizing the second language to build confidence and strategic emotional balance.
• Bilingualism in Diplomacy & NVC: Bilingualism as the human infrastructure for Nonviolent Communication and peace-building.
• Linguistic Ecology: Preserving native languages as essential ecosystems for Environmental and Traditional Knowledge.
• Bilingualism: STEM & Logic: How dual-language logic fuels Innovation and “out-of-the-box” problem solving in Science and Tech.
• The Human Conscience/Archive: Protecting heritage and intergenerational wisdom in the age of AI and Automated Translation.
• Transformation of Bilingualism / The Third Space: Creating new cultural “procedural art” where two languages collide.

SECTION IV: STRENGTHENING ACADEMIC INTEGRITY (AI & PLAGIARISM)
To give our Evaluation Committee and participating organizations full confidence, we redefine “Originality” based on Primary Experience.
• The “Authenticity First” Mandate: Because the 2027 Awards focus on the personal matrix of the student’s bilingual life, AI-generated content is inherently insufficient. AI can translate, but it cannot “live” between two cultures.

SECTION V: EVALUATION COMMITTEE CONFIDENCE MEASURES
• The Personal Narrative Requirement: Every submission must include a “Process Statement” (250–350 words) explaining how the student’s personal bilingual experience informed the work.
• Primary Source Focus: Research papers must prioritize interviews with elders, community observations, or personal linguistic analysis—data that does not exist in AI training sets.
• The AI/Plagiarism Benchmark: All works will be screened via specialized detection tools. Submissions showing more than a 33% unoriginality or clear “AI-syntax” will be disqualified.
• The Interview Stage: Finalists will undergo an online-video interview to ensure the “Intellectual Confidence” displayed in the work matches the student’s own voice.

SECTION VI: MESSAGE TO PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS & EDUCATORS
We invite your students to be Producers of Knowledge. We are not looking for “perfect English” or “perfect native grammar.” We are looking for the Intellectual Rigor that comes from navigating two worlds. By participating, your school supports SDG#4 (Quality Education) and fosters a generation that views their cultural background as their greatest academic asset.

SECTION VII: THE 2027 SUGGESTED THEMES
Students may choose one or a combination of the following “Linguistic Pillars”:

– Please indicate in your subject line your first name’s initial and last name, along with the selected submission category and theme.

SECTION VIII: SUBMISSION CATEGORIES (THE RIGOR OF THE SERIES)

• To maintain intellectual equity across all categories, we require a sustained creative effort. One single poem or one single image does not constitute a “Full Project.” The following requirements ensure that the “Producer’s Capacity” is fully demonstrated:

WRITING & RESEARCH (The Weight of the Word):
• Categories: Essays, Short Stories, Interviews, or Research Papers (Science/Tech/Sociology/Psychology).
• Requirement: 1,200 – 1,300 words. (Plus bibliography for Research).

MEDIA & DIGITAL ARTS (The Visual Narrative):
• Video: 3–7 minute video (MP4). Requires narration/subtitles and a “Complimentary Statement.”
• Still/Digital Art: A series of exactly 7 high-resolution images (JPG/PNG/PDF). These images must function as a conceptual or narrative series, not random snapshots.
• Note: This category requires significant editing and conceptual mapping to match the intellectual labor of the writing categories.

SECTION-IX: EXPANDED POETRY & CREATIVE EXPRESSION (The Rhythm of the Matrix):
• Requirement: A collection of minimum 3 to 5 poems or a one-act play script.
Logic: To demonstrate consistency in style and thought, single poems are not eligible. We seek a “Literary Portfolio” that explores the bilingual experience from multiple angles or through a sustained voice.
A. POETRY & LITERARY VOICES (The 3–5 Rule) | To demonstrate a consistent intellectual and creative “Youth Producer” capacity, we do not accept single poems.
• Requirement: A submission must consist of a minimum of 3 to 5 poems.
• Thematic Thread: While each poem may stand alone, the collection should collectively explore the “Linguistic Matrix”—showing the student’s ability to sustain a conceptual or stylistic voice across multiple pieces.
• The Bridge: We encourage “Code-Switching” (using both languages) within the poems to illustrate the collision of cultures.

B. MEDIA & STILL/DIGITAL ARTS (The Series of 7): As per the long-standing practice of The Light Millennium, digital art submissions must show a narrative or conceptual arc.
• Requirement: Exactly 7 high-resolution images (PDF/JPG/PNG).
• Narrative Consistency: This is not a collection of random snapshots. The 7 pieces should function as a Visual Series—whether through linear storytelling or a shared conceptual theme—illustrating the student’s mastery over their visual “language.”
• Note on Eligibility: Past cycles have seen a lack of eligible entries in this category due to a failure to provide a connected series. To be eligible, the “Complimentary Statement” (250–350 words) must explain the “unseen thread” that connects these 7 images.


SECTION X: STANDARDIZED BIO-DATA FORMAT (The “Youth Producer” Profile)
To ensure a professional and inspiring Award Ceremony Booklet, all applicants must follow this specific structure for their narrative bio (120–130 words). We are looking for a profile that reflects your intellectual identity, not a formal resume or a list of personal grievances.
Your bio should be written in the third person (e.g., “Jane Doe is…” instead of “I am…”) and must cover the following four points:
• Academic & Growing Environment: Your current grade/school and a brief mention of the cultural or linguistic environment that shaped you (e.g., “Raised in a trilingual household in Istanbul…” or “A student from rural New York navigating global digital spaces…”).
• Intellectual Interests & Hobbies: What drives your curiosity? Mention your favorite study areas (STEM, Arts, Sociology) and how you spend your creative time.
• Accomplishments: Mention one or two things you are proud of—this could be a school project, a volunteer effort, or a personal milestone in your “Youth Producer” journey.
• The “Why” of Your Topic: This is the most critical part. Briefly explain why you chose your specific sub-theme (e.g., “Jane chose to research Linguistic Ecology because she believes mother tongues are the key to saving local ecosystems”).

SECTION X1: DEFINITION OF THE AWARDS
• 1st Place: $300 – Certificate, web posting, inclusion in the 2027 J.U.C. book, 3 min. speaking opportunity, global visibility.
• 2nd Place: $200 – Certificate, web posting, inclusion in the 2027 J.U.C. book, 2 min. speaking opportunity.
• 3rd Place: $100 – Certificate, web posting, potential inclusion in the 2027 J.U.C. book.
• 4th Place: Certificate (non-monetary), web posting.
• Overall Excellence: $500.– Above ALL + 5 min. speaking opportunity.
• Native Language Grant: All winners who submit a high-quality Native PDF version will receive an additional $50 stipend for their bilingual effort.

SECTION XII: THE MANDATORY SUBMISSION PACKAGE
• Master Version (English): Primary project in English (Word format, 1,200-1,300 words).
• Native Version (Mother Tongue PDF): A PDF of the project in your native language (Required for the +$50 Grant).
• Narrative Bio: 120–130 words (in English).
• Portrait Photo: High-res headshot taken within the last 6 months.
• CONSENT FORM: A signed Participation & Property Release (mandatory). If under 18, a parent/guardian signature is required. This includes agreement to the Publishing Policy.

SECTION XIII: THE 2027 J.U.C. BOOK PROJECT
LMGlobal.Org aims to produce a print book based on the 2027 Awards. Proceeds go directly to the Awards. The book will feature Overall, First, and Second place winners (and potentially Third place based on quality). This serves as a bi-annual ongoing product of the project.

SECTION XIV: WEBSITE “POSTING POLICY”
All submissions undergo an Eligibility Review. To be published on LMGlobal.Org and presented to the Committee, the work must:
• Meet full word count requirements (1,200–1,300 words).
• Be verified as an original “Youth-Produced” work (AI-free).
• Include the mandatory Native Language PDF to be posted with the original submission that should be in a word file and 12 font with the title of the submission, full name, school or organization name along with the country. Every eligible submission becomes part of a global, searchable archive for linguistic diversity.

SECTION XV: ELIGIBILITY & RULES
• Age: High School students (Grades 9–12) and youth aged 14–20 (including dropouts).
• Exclusions: Relatives of Founder/Board/Committee and previous 1st/2nd/3rd place winners from 2025 are ineligible.
• Fee: Entry is FREE OF CHARGE.

SECTION XVI: PROJECTED 2026-2027 TIMELINE
• APRIL – MAY 2026: Informative Meetings & Invitations.
• OCTOBER 16, 2026: SUBMISSION DEADLINE.
• NOVEMBER 2026: Public Posting of Eligible Entries.
• DEC 2026 – JAN 2027: Evaluation Committee Sessions.
• LATE JAN – FEB 2027: Interviews with FINALISTS.
• FEB 2027 (3rd Week): Virtual Award Ceremony (International Mother Language Day).

SECTION XVII: THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
Finalists will be announced 4-6 weeks before the ceremony (the third week of February 2027) and invited to an online video-interview to present their pieces and answer questions. This session determines the final rankings.

SECTION XVIII: WHY BECOME A “YOUTH PRODUCER OF KNOWLEDGE”?

• TANGIBLE OPPORTUNITIES: Every eligible submission is archived and posted on the LMGlobal.org platforms. This digital footprint provides a permanent reference for your academic portfolio, which can significantly influence scholarships, college admissions, and future career offers.
• LEADERSHIP ROLES: The J.U.C. Awards reward long-term excellence. Previous winners are invited back as Student Coordinators to lead “Informative Sessions,” mentor new applicants, and serve as Official Presenters at the 2027 Award Ceremony.

SECTION XIX: INSTITUTIONAL PARTICIPATION (SCHOOLS & NGOs)
GLOBAL PRIORITY DEADLINE: JUNE 3, 2026
The J.U.C. Awards invites Public and Private High Schools and NGOs to formally register their intent to participate in the “2027 Youth Producers of Knowledge” project. Early confirmation ensures that your students and your institution are integrated into our global network from the very beginning.
The Strategic Impact of the June 3rd Deadline: To maintain the high standard of excellence and international recognition associated with the J.U.C. Awards, we prioritize institutions that commit early. This provides:
• Global Networking & UN Context: Your school or organization becomes part of an international circle of educators within the UN-NGO Community. Participation reflects a commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of quality education and cultural diversity.
• Multi-Platform Visibility: Through The Light Millennium, Global (LMGlobal.org) multi-platforms—including our association with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UNDGC)—participating schools gain a unique level of international exposure.
• A Chain-Reaction of Recognition: As your students’ work is archived and promoted via LMGlobal.Org’s global reach, the institution’s role in fostering “Human Intelligence” and “Youth Productivity” is showcased to a worldwide audience of diplomats, educators, and activists.
• Summer Mentorship: Early commitment ensures that the designated Advisor or Liaison has the full summer period to mentor students as they navigate their projects.
The Commitment Mandate (Due June 3, 2026): To be officially recognized and featured in our international outreach, please email JUCAwards@LMGlobal.Org with:
• The Liaison: Name of the Teacher/Advisor
• Institutional Identity: Official Full Name and a High-Resolution Logo (PNG/JPG) along with City/Country.
• Letter of Intent: A simple confirmation that the school/NGO will encourage its students to submit original, human-produced work in line with–this–the 2027 Guidelines.

SECTION XX: THE GRANT & MONOLINGUAL PERSPECTIVE
• Logic: The $50 is a professional stipend for document preparation.
• Monolingual Requirement: English-only speakers must submit a Supplemental Research Appendix (e.g., an interview transcript or a study on “untranslatable” words) to bridge the linguistic gap.
• Media Rule: Dialogue in mother tongue requires English subtitles. Dialogue in English requires a mother-tongue transcript PDF.

SECTION XXI: CORE INSPIRATION – THE J.U.C. STORY
