CONCEPT & PURPOSE  [Updated for the 2026 #EducationDay]

A foundational proposal developed in direct support of the UNGA79, the #SoTF outcomes, and towards the realization of #OurCommonFuture,

Concept & Purpose:
To forge a future defined by peace, security, equality, and sustainability, a global imperative is the implementation of a compulsory Peace Education curriculum, deeply integrated with Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), starting from Kindergarten and extending through K-12 and into lifelong learning. This holistic approach directly addresses the persistent mega gaps in global digital literacy and educational equity.

STRATEGIC POLICY ALIGNMENT
This vision is anchored in the core pillars of the renewed UN Agenda and is demonstrably actionable through our prior six successful programs and campaigns:




• Pact for the Future & Future Generations: This proposal serves as a vital commitment under the #PactForTheFuture and the #DeclarationOnFutureGenerations, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with the foundational skills to uphold the principles of peace and sustainable development.



•UNESCO’s Education Day: Recognizing education as a fundamental human right, this initiative supports the creation of inclusive, resilient, and transformative learning pathways. By integrating Peace Education with ICTs, including the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, this framework directly serves the spirit and goals of the annual International Day of Education (January 24th).



• UN Global Digital Compact (GDC): The program leverages ICTs and the GDC’s guidance to accelerate the closing of the digital divide, ensuring universal access to digital skills and promoting human-centric digital governance.



CORE GOAL AND IMPLEMENTATION VISION
By cultivating empathy, critical thinking, and digital literacy from the earliest stages of education, we envision to empower youth as informed agents of change, accelerating the eradication of systemic issues while ensuring global stability.

•Ultimate Goal: To gain Member States support and approval for the inclusion of Compulsory Peace and ICT Education as a foundational pillar in the next phase of the UN Declaration (Post-Agenda 2030).



• Implementation Vision: To mobilize global public and Member State support towards the universal adoption and implementation of this essential mandate by the UN Centennial in 2045 (#UN100).



EXPECTED OUTCOMES (Focused on #EducationDay2026)
This targeted campaign, centered around the International Day of Education, is designed to achieve the following immediate and mid-term goals:

•Facilitate High-Level Dialogue: To engage Member States in a constructive dialogue regarding the necessity of integrating Peace Education and digital literacy—including a focus on AI ethics—into national K-12 curricula. We aim to secure their participation and perspectives at the #EducationDay panel.



•Expand Coalition and Stakeholder Engagement: To strengthen the existing coalition by actively engaging additional Member States, educational institutions, international organizations, and civil society partners.



• Introduce and Align Vision: To formally introduce the Vision and Concept to the UN System and Member States who prioritize education, ICTs, and AI-related programs. We seek to position the Compulsory Peace ICT Education initiative as a framework aligned with the #PactForTheFuture and the #DeclarationOnFutureGenerations.


• Secure Initial Sponsorship: To identify and begin discussions with Member States interested in championing the formal introduction of this policy proposal to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).




• Maximize Global Outreach: To make all proceedings and outcomes of the #EducationDay session widely available on the web, thereby engaging global stakeholders and further expanding the campaign’s reach and impact.



LMGlobal.Org’s ROLE AND COALITION STRENGTH
LMGlobal.Org, an NGO associated with the UN Department of Global Communications (UN DGC, formerly DPI) since 2005, has been an advocate for public awareness and undertaken a critical role becoming a bridge between the UN, local communities, and international organizations. This #CompulsoryPeaceICTEdu, particular initiative is proudly supported by a growing coalition of 18 national and international organizations.


• Our Strategic Objective: The campaign seeks to identify and gain Member States’ sponsors towards formally introducing and championing this urgent educational reform to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Background: International Day of Education

On 3 December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted with consensus a resolution proclaiming 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
The adoption of the resolution 73/25 “International Day of Education”, co-authored by Nigeria and 58 other Member States, demonstrated the unwavering political will to support transformative actions for inclusive, equitable and quality education for all.
By doing so, the international community reiterated that education plays a key role in building sustainable and resilient societies, and contributes to the achievement of all other Sustainable Development Goals.
