A Drop of Hope – #JUCAwards2025

Water Action Decade; a topic we must emphasize more in a world that is developing day by day. I am Supuni Jayaratne, and my personal commitment to the Water Action Decade is not just a step, but a journey.
A world without water would be like a silent, lifeless desert, where rivers turn to dust, trees wither away, and life itself becomes a distant memory. It would be a world without color, without hope, where even the air feels heavier, burdened by the absence of the essence that keeps us alive.
By incorporating my skills in Graphic design and Drama, I am planning to spread more awareness about the importance of water in a world where clean water is accessible to everyone. Daily activities also take a special place in my contribution to conserving water, and I’m putting my full effort into saving water as much as I can. Also, in the future, I am planning to contribute to projects that expand clean water facilities, which can be accessed by everyone in rural areas of both Sri Lanka and the world. I’m also aspiring to participate in forums related to UN and SDG Goals so that I can share my aspects of the Water Action Decade with the world.
Water is not just a resource; it is life, and protecting it is our responsibility. Every drop we save today, leaves a drop of hope for tomorrow. Let’s work together for a world where clean water is available for each and every being on earth.

Grey Water Systems for Sustainable Urban Water Management: A Case Study Approach

Honored guests, esteemed judges, and fellow awardees, 




Water is life. It defines our world, sustains every living thing, and yet, for too many, it’s a struggle each day. We turn on a tap and hardly think, yet others have to walk miles for one drop. Climate change, pollution, and wastage threaten this vital resource—but we can alter that.



As part of the #WaterActionDecade, I commit to raising awareness in my school by leveraging the ecology club of my school. Through engagement and motivation, I aim to foster a community of aware individuals.
Furthermore, I aim to develop engineering-based solutions to problems such as overuse of water in agriculture. Because change doesn’t start with governments or corporations—it starts with us. Small actions, when multiplied, create waves of impact.

AquaGuard: THE FUTURE OF WATER PROTECTION | #JUCAwards2025

Thank you to the Light Millennium organization for this meaningful award. It is an honor to be recognized and to stand among individuals who are passionate about creating a better future for our planet.
Water is at the heart of life, yet pollution and mismanagement continue to threaten its availability. My project, AquaGuard, focuses on using technology and collaboration to protect our water sources. By allowing people to report pollution, access real-time data, and take part in environmental actions, we can make a real difference.
This vision supports the Water Action Agenda, which aims to create sustainable water solutions worldwide. Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 is not just about providing clean water—it’s about making sure it stays clean for generations to come.
The future of water is in our hands. Every action counts, no matter how small. If we come together, we can build a world where water is not wasted, but valued and protected.

The Drop – Universal access to safe drinking water | #JUCAwards2025

I believe if we want to change the world, we have to change ourselves first. So we can start to save water from our home.
My commitment towards the water action decade as an individual is to use the water in a more efficient and useful way, while educating people around me about how precious the water resource is. Also I will turn off the tap while brushing, fixing leakages that I see anywhere and reusing water whenever possible.
And I will always do my part to save water for the future because every drop is precious…

Beyond the Surface: Examining Military and Corporate Accountability on Water

I am deeply honored to be receiving this award from the Light Millennium Organization. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for this award and for providing a platform where our voices can be utilized to effect positive change.
My essay analyzes the environmental impact of large-scale industries—the military and corporate— awareness raising importance, and our responsibility for making a change. We may not individually be able to drive large-scale changes, but we can be harnessed by our combined voice, to inform, and organize others. Debate, social media, and writing are powerful tools for awareness raising and effecting change. As an individual, I will continue to remain informed, reduce wastage, and engage in debates opposing unsustainable action.
This aligns with the Water Action Agenda and the general goal of sustainable water management. By raising awareness and advocating for responsible policies, we contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 6, striving for equal access to clean water and the protection of our resources.
Change begins with understanding, and progress is built on collaborative work. Together, let us make water valued, saved, and kept for future generations.
